SoMo Walls Receives Prestigious ULI North Florida Award for Excellence in Development

TALLAHASSEE, FL (November 7, 2024) – SoMo Walls, Tallahassee’s dynamic new development located on the South Monroe Corridor, was honored with the “New Development Under $20 Million” award at the 2024 Urban Land Institute (ULI) North Florida Awards for Excellence Gala. This prestigious award marks a significant milestone for Tallahassee, which has not received this level of recognition from ULI in recent years, affirming the city’s progress in innovative and responsible urban development.

Held at Deerwood Castle in Jacksonville, the ULI Awards for Excellence Gala recognized outstanding projects that demonstrate excellence in planning, design, sustainability, and community impact. SoMo Walls, a 27,000-square-foot mixed-use development designed by CONN + Architects, was acknowledged for its transformative impact on the South Monroe Corridor. By integrating artistic expression, local businesses, and modern architectural design, SoMo Walls is fostering an energetic, walkable environment that enhances Tallahassee’s urban landscape.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from ULI North Florida,” said Bugra Demirel, developer behind SoMo Walls. “Our vision for SoMo Walls has always been to create a space that enriches the South Monroe area, supporting public arts, and offering a unique destination for residents and visitors alike. This award affirms our commitment to responsible development that prioritizes community, creativity, and economic growth.”

A key aspect of SoMo Walls’ success is its emphasis on community engagement. Through partnerships with local artists, the development features vibrant murals and installations that contribute to Tallahassee’s cultural and artistic landscape. The project has generated hundreds of construction and permanent jobs, contributing millions of dollars in economic impact and boosting local tax revenue. With a vibrant tenant mix—including The Monroe, Walls Distilling Company, Burn Bootcamp, and Foxtail Coffee—SoMo Walls further establishes itself as a premier lifestyle destination.

This ULI recognition adds to SoMo Walls’ growing list of accolades. Previously, the development received awards from the local chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), was featured in Florida/Caribbean Architect Magazine, and earned honors from the Capital City Chamber of Commerce for its contribution to City's Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWSBE) goals. These recognitions solidify SoMo Walls’ status as an award-winning project and highlight its role in driving Tallahassee’s evolution within the urban core.
